Automation System for 3000RT Chiller Plant
Singapore American School at Woodlands required a reliable, scalable and maintainable automation platform for its Central Utility Plant. The project focused on PLC and SCADA application development for a 3000RT chiller plant, covering chillers, chilled water pumps, condenser water pumps, cooling towers and ancillary systems. The solution was developed using Schneider Electric Modicon M580 Hot Standby PLC, X80 Remote I/O, Control Expert and EcoStruxure Building Operation to provide centralized monitoring, control, alarms, trends and efficient plant operation.
Our scope of work covers the complete development and integration of the chiller plant automation system, including PLC programming, SCADA/BMS interface development, equipment control, sensor integration, monitoring, alarm management, sequencing, testing, and system optimization for efficient plant operations.
The plant control system includes Enterprise Server, WorkStation, WebStation, Reports Server, Automation Servers, redundant PLC controllers and distributed I/O modules. It enables centralized operation from the chiller plant room / rooftop plant area and provides operators with real-time plant graphics, alarms, trends, schedules, reports and equipment status. The EcoStruxure architecture supports local engineering access, web-based operation and future expansion of both I/O points and processing/control functions.
The automation system was designed for a large campus chiller plant with multiple chillers, chilled water pumps, condenser water pumps and cooling towers. The plant schematic included chilled water supply/return, condenser water supply/return, cooling tower circuit, motorized isolation valves, bypass valves and measurement points for plant performance monitoring.
